Acupuncture is an ancient art that has been practiced for over 3,000 years. This ancient art focuses on treating both the symptom and the underlying cause of the condition. Acupuncture is a whole medical system that treats the spiritual, emotional, mental and physical being. The treatment involves the insertion of very fine, sterilized, single use needles throughout the body at specific locations called acupoints. Stimulation of these acupoints with the needles balances the body's energy, promoting healing in the body. I specialize in treating;
- Digestive Disorders
- Hormonal Disruptions
How does acupuncture work?
Acupuncture is a method of encouraging the body to promote natural healing and to improve functioning. The body has pathways where energy flows called meridians. When there is an imbalance or obstruction in the meridians, conditions develop. Acupuncture will help correct these imbalances by inserting needles at precise locations to help the body restore its natural state of health. From a Western perspective research has shown various physiological changes from an acupuncture treatment such as; regulation of hormones and neurotransmitters. Acupuncture also offers beneficial changes in cell counts, anti —inflammatory agents and release of endorphins, which are natural relievers of pain and stress.
Does it hurt?
Acupuncture produces a relaxing sensation. As the needles are being inserted you may feel nothing at all to a mild tingling or dull sensation. Many of my clients become very relaxed and fall asleep during sessions
Do you offer other modalities?
FIRE CUPPING is a therapeutic technique, which involves the application of heated cups to the body. This process creates a seal, which pulls the skin into the cup. The vacuum formed draws up old stagnant blood, bringing it to the surface. This creates increased blood flow. I use this technique all the time for;
- Back pain, muscular skeletal conditions
- Respiratory conditions
- Colds and flu
I also teach this technique to any clients interested! Very easy to learn and feels great!!
MOXA THERAPY is the burning of the herb mugwort (artemesia vulgaris). This therapy increases energy, improves blood circulation, strengthens the qi and blood and warms and soothes the meridians. I use this form of therapy with clients who are;
- Cold all the time
- Circulatory conditions
- Post surgical scar treatment
How did I become interested in acupuncture?
I read the book "Between Heaven and Earth" by Harriet Beinfield and Efrem Korngold. This book explained Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and it made a lot of sense to me. It made me realize how important it is to see the body as a whole system and how to treat the mind, body and soul. It awakened me to understand that our environment, the weather, the seasons all affect our physical and emotional state of being. It also made me understand how important preventative health is.
Here is an example of how TCM sees the seasons along with emotion and environment:
I went to Worcester Sate College, where I received my Bachelors degree in Health and a minor and Psychology. Then I went on to receive a Masters in Acupuncture from the New England School of Acupuncture in 2005.
For the past 10 years I have continued to learn not only from continuing education but more importantly from my clients. I am very blessed to have such a rewarding career. To see people improve their quality of life everyday!
Every individual is unique and each treatment is customized for your specific needs!
